  1. Well that sounds fine to me. There are lots of methods to accomplish the same goals. Each person, each dog has different skills. The trick is to know what works for you and what works for your dog. There is no ONE right way. There are many ways. I am glad you found a method that works for you and your dog. Share some video of you and your dogs working. We love to share info. That is what makes youtube great.

  2. hmm i was taught different for training however i was reccomended not to do any protection training until a year old and has all basic obiedence on and off leash perfected.

  3. Well….it is a game. It’s Schutzhund training. Not personal protection training. The stroking of the head and the over head hand motions are designed to desensitise the dog to threatening motions from above. It’s designed to build courage and confidence. Remember this is a puppy six months old. We wanted her to have a good experience to build on. We do not want her to grow up fearful of anyone, but rather confident in her ability to defend.

  4. im just wondering why the attacker is petting the dog when it bites that makes no sense and the dog isnt going to have a good bite. the dog is probably confused and just thinks this is a game..

  5. The training does make the dog aggressive, but only on command. Right now she just thinks it’s play. Probably the only toy she ever had since the beginning of the training was the arm slip. Even as adults the dogs learn that attacking is a reward, and they’re happy to do it. Even though it’s a reward, however, they are conditioned to only attack when told. You should really only play with the dog at home when work is finished. People forget that they’re trained to be tools, and not pets more so.

  6. wont this kind of training make the dog aggressive?but can you still play with the dog after she undergoes this kind of training?im going to get a female gsd soon..

  7. my dog jack is rescue and i have him doing schutzhunde in a few months. i got lucky!

  8. thanks for sharing your training video!

  9. nice work! im myself is traning my two rottweilers !

  10. reading the comments people have lots to say.. but their not the ones training the dogs!

i myself have seen what goes on trainng dogs for Schutzhund rankings, at a kennels that works closely with the local police.

in my eye this woman is doing a great job, this dog soo young will grow and only become more experinces in his time to come for adult training… a beautiful German Shepherd puppy it is!

  11. for working a puppy the guy did OK, not great but ok.

  12. u took the words right out of my mouth thats just what i was thinking when i saw the vid. But i know a few rotts who might argue with u when it comes to ur bite comment lol keep up the good work

  13. You cant say she has one of the best bites in Schutzhund yet for she is only a puppy and untill u score a perfect 100 in 3 theres no way to tell

  14. It’s called a lateral pass and I never once fed the pillow. She always came to me and raised up as I passed by. The dog has awesome grips and exceptional drive. Must be doing something right. Are you jealous of my sweet moves. I am pretty hot for an old guy :)

  15. Interesting comment for someone that does not know this dog! Her bite, was to bite with a deep bite and not let go from 6 wks on. Teaching her to use the bag and sleeve and not myself was my only problem with her. It is not a problem anymore, and she has one of the best bites there is for this sport. not to worry…:-) she is a yr old now still strong.

  16. Shame on you – feeding the bite pillow like that. YOu will teach that dog that the helper will feed the sleeve rather than learn that he/she must grab and hold on.

  17. Thanks for reply. I guess I will get a book to learn more about this. So far my dogs are obedient, but I don’t train them in too many specific areas. I make sure they are well exercised.

  18. I never needed shooting lesson to be able to fire a gun either. But, practice sure does help. This practice develops the dogs situational awareness, builds confidence and helps the dog learn to target the upper body if reacting to a threat. Not to bite in the lower body where they would be vunerable to a counter attack from the bad guy.

  19. Simulates gun fire and is mainly for socialization so the dog will not be noise sensitive later in more advanced training under gun fire. Some dogs (like this one) take it as a threat and do come into drive and bite harder than the would without it.

  20. Hi thanks for the question, I will see if I can get my trainer to answer that question for you…he would do a much better job. I would say noise, to bring up the drive. will let him answer your other question too. :-)

  21. I’m curious. What is this dog learning? And why the whip? I never had to train my GSD’s to be protective, so is there more to this?

  22. What’s the whip about?

  23. Hi, Anj always, from 6 wks of age had a drive to bite anything that moved, so she was just a natural for schutzhund type training. I was glad when she learned to bite the toys, bags, & sleeves instead of me when I moved hahaha

  24. wow how did u teach ANJ do shutzhund

  25. Thanks, I can’t wait to see you and Ric, he works so well for you!
